This summer, members of the Zonta Club of Lansing met at Jacquelyn Pulford’s cottage in Pentwater to make a generous headway into the sewing and stuffing of mastectomy pillows. It wasn’t all work. When you are in Pentwater in the summertime, there is always plenty of fun Michigan activities to enjoy. The pillows will be finished within the month so they can be donated to the Sparrow Hospital Cancer Center. This is the sixth year, the Zonta Club of Lansing has made mastectomy pillows. The East Lansing Club and the Zonta Club of Greater Lansing also participates and is a great joint effort on all 3 clubs.

The Zonta Club of Lansing Summer Retreat is where we sewed over 100 mastectomy comfort pillows which will be delivered to Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital’s Cancer Center on September 29, 2016. President Jackie Pulford graciously opened her summer home in Pentwater, MI to the club to gather for a long weekend of sewing, boating, shopping, more sewing and visiting the sand dunes. Oh did I say more sewing? Those attending were: Jackie Pulford, Nicole Bohnett, Pat Curran, Kim McCall, and Melody Atwood. The club has already started on our next batch of pillows to donate to the hospital. Both the East Lansing Club and Michigan Capitol Area Zonta Clubs will be donating mastectomy comfort pillows in October and November.
Member, Lady Margaret Groves stopped to smell the “Giant Dinner Plate Hibiscus” instead of the roses after visiting member Hilda Patricia Curran at the Ingham County Rehabiliation Center. Hilda is recovering from breaking her leg in four places.
In August 2014, Zonta members got together for a night with the Lugnuts. A memorable night with fireworks and laughter along with popcorn, peanuts and cracker-jacks. The good news: The Lugnuts Won!!
A fun time for everyone!
