Zonta Club of Northwest Wayne is one of over 1,200 clubs of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization. Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, Zonta takes its name from the Lakota Sioux Indian word meaning “honest and trustworthy.” Zontians volunteer their time, talents, and energy to local and international service projects that are designed to advance the status of women.
About NW Wayne Zonta Club
Zonta gives you the chance to be a part of something much larger than yourself…
Zonta allows you to give of yourself to others, to actively participate in the selection of service projects to help your community, and to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health, and professional status of women worldwide.
The Zonta Club of Northwest Wayne County supports community projects through fundraisers. Our major focus has been providing scholarships for women to continue their education. Over the years, we have donated over $30,000 for the Women’s Resource Center at Schoolcraft College and the Focus on Women Scholarship Fund at Henry Ford Community College.
We have provided enrichment activities for families at the Wayne County Family Shelter; we support breast cancer awareness, research, and education; and also support cultural events at the Greenmead Historical Site along with the preservation efforts of the S.E. Michigan Land Conservancy.
Finally, we support our members by offering friendship, mentoring, and an opportunity to change the lives of women. Zontians give from their heart to help others. Do you have the heart?

Advocacy and Service
16 Days of Activism: Thirty-five percent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence. As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence—an international campaign that aims to inspire action and end violence against women and girls around the world—the Zonta Club of Northwest Wayne County, along with Livonia Biggby® stores, have collaborated together to build awareness of Violence Against Women.
At the local level, Zonta clubs across the world have organized activities and events as part of the 2021 Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign, which focuses on the service and advocacy actions of Zonta clubs and districts to prevent and end violence against women and girls in their local communities.
“As the world faces the COVID-19 pandemic, instances of gender-based violence are on the rise. Now, more than ever, it is essential that we work together to end violence against women and girls,” said Zonta International President Sharon Langenbeck. “Through the Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign, Zonta clubs around the world are uniting to raise their voices to bring awareness to this issue and advocate on behalf of gender-based violence survivors.”
Each year during the 16 Days of Activism campaign, which runs from 25 November – 10 December, Zonta International encourages its clubs to participate in advocacy efforts that focus on prevention, protection and prosecution.
During the 16 Days of Activism, customers who visit either Livonia BIGBBY® location receive a special #awarenessisbrewing drink sleeve. Customers are encouraged to join the campaign by posting a selfie with their sleeve and tag Biggby Coffee Livonia- Plymouth/Middlebelt or Biggby Coffee Livonia- Newburgh/Ann Arbor Road and Northwest Wayne County Zonta Club to show their support and raise awareness to this very critical worldwide issue. Customers are encouraged to visit the website www.ZontaSaysNo.com/getthefacts/.
Our Zonta club is just a small group of dedicated women who come together to work to raise awareness and advocate for a better future for all women and girls. I’m very proud of the efforts of this club, our district and Zonta International in advancing the status of women through service and advocacy. We meet monthly to plan service and advocacy projects that will help make a difference in our community while also raising funds for scholarships and community grants.
Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women began in November 2012. To learn more and join the campaign, please visit www.zontasaysno.com. Zonta International’s ongoing efforts to end violence against women and girls at the international level are carried out through the Zonta International Strategies to end Violence Against Women (ZISVAW) program and through Zonta’s partnerships with the United Nations and its agencies. Since the program’s inception in 1999, more than US$9.5 million has been provided to support projects to prevent and end violence against women and girls in 46 countries.
A BIG thank you to Biggy Coffee in Livonia, both locations, for their support of the NW Wayne Zonta Club! Their support of our 16 Days of Activism, and the donations raised at their grand opening help to support all that we do.
