Zonta Club of Metro Detroit, is one of over 1,200 clubs of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization. Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, Zonta takes its name from the Lakota Sioux Indian word meaning “honest and trustworthy.” Zontians volunteer their time, talents and energy to local and international service projects that are designed to advance the status of women.

Young Women in Leadership Award 2026
Zonta Club of Metro Detroit is proud to award Marissa Ford the Young Women in Leadership Scholarship. We feel confident that she will be an integral part of building a better world for women and girls. We are proud that Marissa was one of the recipients to receive the Young Women in Leadership award from Zonta International.
Marissa is attending the University of Michigan (U of M) and was an active student at Grosse Pointe North High School. She plans to pursue a career in public policy after receiving her undergraduate degree and Law School. She is interested in policy writing for the Michigan Legislature. Marissa is a volunteer in community organizations through Students Demand Action where she advocates and raises awareness about gun violence. Also, through the Michigan Institute for Public Policy she is researching a policy to improve literacy rates.
At U of M Marissa is involved with Michigan Institute for Progressive Policy, Michigan Community Scholars Program, Fusion Dance, and Students Demand Action. As a student at U of M she has been awarded a scholarship for academic achievement during the first fall semester. Marissa also received scholarships during high school for high academic achievement and leadership and for pursuing a career in public service and inspiring others through service and leadership.

Self-care means taking care of our minds, bodies, and souls by engaging in activities that promote well-being and reduce stress. Our Zing activities are so important to us and we believe in making it a priority. It helps to sooth our emotional state.
