Zonta Club of Michigan Capit0l, is one of over 1,200 clubs of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization. Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, Zonta takes its name from the Lakota Sioux Indian word meaning “honest and trustworthy.” Zontians volunteer their time, talents and energy to local and international service projects that are designed to advance the status of women.
Zonta gives you the chance to be a part of something much larger than yourself….
Zonta allows you to give of yourself to others, to actively participate in the selection of service projects to help your community, and to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women worldwide.

Michigan Capitol Area Zontians Making a Difference
Dr. Gladys Beckwith of Lansing pioneered the field of women’s studies, teaching the first courses offered in Michigan and founding the Michigan Women’s Studies Association. Dr. Beckwith served as the Association’s president for over 35 years and founded the Michigan Women’s Historical Center & Hall of Fame. Dr. Beckwith is a member of the Michigan Capitol Area Zonta Club.
Dr. Beckwith is one of the 2012 Women’s Hall of Fame Inductees.
Denise Quarles, Michigan Capitol Area club member and former District 15 Governor was elected to Zonta International Board of Directors for 2012-14 biennium. Denise was elected to the Zonta International Nominating Committee for the 2018-2020 biennium and she is serving as the Vice Chairperson for that committee.

DeAnna Cambridge, Michigan Capitol Area club member has served as District 15 Lt. Governor for the 2018 – 2020 biennium. She is currently serving as our elected District 15 Governor for the 2020 – 2022 Biennium.
